ICE Projects
Examples of ICE Projects:
- Alpine Engineering has conducted relay application studies and
replacement of old electromechanical station service protection relays
with microprocessor
based relays at a major (900 MW) thermal generator station and at a
major (3000 MW) hydroelectric
generating station on the BC Hydro system.
- Gabor Furst Consulting has participated in a failure
investigation of faults in a large indutrial
cable system. Overvoltage and ferroresonance studies were performed
using the EMTP program.
- Gabor Furst Consulting carried out stability studies for a large
paper mill, to investigate measures
taken in the event of loss of the high voltage supply.
- Litigation investigation and expert witness services into
porcelain insulator failures is ongoing.
- Litigation and expert witness activities are ongoing for an
electrocution in the USA.
- Polymer insulator survey has begun which focuses on utilities
which have had problems in the past.
Utilities open to participating in a field inspection program are
welcome and should contact T&D High Voltage
Consulting. An annual
report will be issued free of charge
to all utility participants.
- Utilities interested in participating in a collaboration project
to investigate in-service diagnostic
techniques to detect transmission class polymer insulators with
internal defects and/or damages
should contact T&D High Voltage
Consulting.
- Several electrical/fire forensic investigations are being
undertaken for law firms and insurance companies
involving equipment failures, conductor/cable failures, insulation
failures, arcing,
and fires of disputable origin.
- Electrical safety projects are in progress involving hospital,
industrial, and high voltage testing
hazards. For further info contact REPCo
Engineering.
- A feasibility study is planned to determine if an on-line,
in-service U/G Cable Diagnostic system
can be developed. If cable quality can be regularly monitored prior to
failure, power outages
and expensive overtime repairs can be avoided. Interested utilities
should contact Orton Consulting Engineers
International.
- An ATP/EMTP study has now been completed to simulate the
performance of a fast static compensator
in order to reduce flicker for a weak power supply to a
cycling load.
- Litigation investigation and expert witness services into
porcelain insulator failures is ongoing.
- Litigation and expert witness activities for an electrocution in
the USA has been successfully completed with a victory for the
plaintiff.
- Polymer or composite insulator utility survey has begun which
focuses on utilities that have had deterioration problems and failures
in the past. Utilities interested to participate in a field inspection
program are welcome and should contact T&D
High Voltage Consulting . An annual report will be issued free of
charge to all utility participants.
- Utilities interested in participating in a collaboration project
to investigate in-service diagnostic techniques to detect transmission
class polymer insulators with internal defects and/or damages should
contact T&D High Voltage Consulting .
- Technical utility and manufacturer's surveys for Porcelain Fuse
Cutouts problems and for Pad mounted Switchgear condensation problems.
Those utilities that are interested in the results
should contact T&D High Voltage Consulting.
- CEA Technologies investigative project and report: "Remote
Sensing Diagnostic Technologies to Detect Faulty Transmission Class
Porcelain Suspension Insulators." Those utilities
that
are interested in the results should contact T&D
High Voltage Consulting .
- CEA R&D report: "Investigative Testing of Field Aged
Polymer Insulators."
Interested utilities should contact T&D High
Voltage Consulting.
- Albert Reed, P.Eng. (REPCo Engineering) has
been awarded a Master's degree in Fire Protection
Engineering (First class honours across the board) from
U.B.C. He has also been chosen as Chairman
of the elected Board of Trustees for the Gabriola Fire Protection
Improvement District.
- CEA R&D report: "Investigative Testing of Field Aged
Polymer Insulators." Interested utilities should
contact T&D High Voltage Consulting.
- CEA Technologies workshop,
Structures and Poles (June 2002), presentation: "Recommended Practice and
Application
Guidelines for Use of Distribution Class Fiberglass Poles and
Structures". Interested utilities should contact T&D High
Voltage Consulting.
